Top Tips for a Campervan Trip

dream a little dream
  1. Research! Where ever you plan to go you will have to do some form of research, after all the last thing you want at the end of a long day is finding you have nowhere to sleep! Check out campsites in the area, and in the peak season call ahead and book. Whilst it is nice to choose each morning where you will visit, there is nothing worse than realising you have already passed something you would loved to have seen. If you are going to Europe take a look at the driving laws etc. And pack a phrase book, if you’re heading off the beaten track you may struggle to find English speaking help when you’re lost!!
  2. Remember your iPod, or your favourite CDs!
  3. Take a Map! Everyone knows even with a SatNav you can easily get lost. So make sure you have a good map with you to find your way.
  4. Keep an eye on the fuel gauge! Do you know where the next fuel station is? And will it be open when you get there? It is a good idea to keep the fuel topped up when you can.
  5. Take some tasty snacks for the journey!
  6. Pick a good pitch! For a comfy night’s sleep find a good flat pitch. Consider the all important distance to the toilet block; try and get a pitch not to close – you don’t want to be woken in the night by others, but not too far away so you avoid a full on trek to the loo.
  7. Pack LIGHT! Think about what you are actually going to need, in a campervan space is precious.
  8. And finally, relax, enjoy it, don’t forget a bottle of wine.....or the loo roll!

Best Sites for Campervans

campsites

There is nothing better than chugging along through the British countryside
in a VW camper, it really is the life.

Here is the ‘Cool Camping’ guide to 10 of the best UK sites for campervans:

Beadnell Bay, Northumberland

Hurrah! Motorhomes accepted, but not those hulking great white caravans. Campervans are perfect here as the location, across the road from a huge beach. It is quite exposed so can get a bit too windy for tents.

Turner Hall Farm, Cumbria

A great off-the-beaten track option, Turner Hall Farm, tucked into the folds of the fells between the mountains of Scafell Pike and the Old Man of Coniston, feels truly remote, and the drive there over the Wrynose Pass is spectacular. The only downside for campers is that there aren't any electric hook-ups.

Faichemard Farm, Inverness-shire

This adult-only site has a sweeping mountain backdrop and is one of the few sites near Loch Ness that accepts campervans (most only take caravans now). It's a great place for walkers to come and explore the trails and with only 40 pitches, never feels overcrowded.

Northern Lights, Ross-shire

What an unbelievable location! Red deer stroll past this tiny site, and you can park your camper right at the water's edge to get the best loch and mountain views. Electric hook-ups and flat ground make it an even more campervan-friendly zone.

Caerfai Farm, Pembrokeshire

Flatter ground may be harder to find here, but the views of Pembrokeshire’s coast more than make up for it on this organic working farm. Stock up on some of the outstanding local produce from the fantastic farm shop and munch away as you admire the sea views from your van.
